Construction to delay refill of Lake Tapps

Lake Tapps water levels too low for recreational activities

LAKE TAPPS, Wash. — Cascade Water Alliance says the refill of Lake Tapps – which usually happens mid-February – will be delayed until about March 15.

It’s because of a project that the alliance is working on with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). They’re trying to replace a 100-year-old infrastructure to improve water diversion reliability and water quality for the reservoir.

It is part of a broader USACE project designed to improve the fish passage at Mud Mountain Dam.

Cascade draws the reservoir level down during the winter for dike stability and maintenance activities. This winter, they held the reservoir level at a slightly higher level than usual to support refill efforts in the spring.

The water levels impact when people can put their boats into the lake. Cascade says it hopes it can reach appropriate levels by April 15 to make that happen, but it will depend on how construction goes.

Cascade will update the community as additional information is available. Residents can monitor overall reservoir water levels by clicking here.
