Controversial Wells Fargo ad prompts outrage from arts community

Wells Fargo is apologizing for publishing a recent brochure that many in the arts community say is disparaging of careers in the arts.

“An actor yesterday. A botanist today,” one side of the advertisement reads. “A ballerina yesterday. An engineer today,” reads another.

Many theatre and arts professionals assert the ad is placing careers in the sciences ahead of professional artistic pursuits.

Wells Fargo released a statement Saturday night apologizing for the ad.

‘Wells Fargo is deeply committed to the arts, and we offer our sincere apology for the initial ads,” the statement reads. “They were intended to celebrate all aspirations of young people and fell short of that goal.”
