A sex offender with three warrants was arrested by Clallam County deputies on Thursday, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 10:13 a.m. on Feb. 12, deputies stopped a green Toyota 4 Runner with no plates.
The car was heading eastbound on Highway 101 just west of Sherburne Road in Sequim.
The car pulled into the oncoming traffic and stopped.
Deputies recognized the driver as 34-year-old Leslie James Paranteau of Sequim, who had three felony warrants for failure to register as a sex offender, second-degree assault, attempting to elude police and a violation of community custody.
Once deputies contacted Paranteau, he fled in his vehicle eastbound on Atterberry Road, reaching speeds of 70 mph.
Paranteau slowed down as he reached Hooker Road, where a woman got out of the car while it was still moving.
Deputies searched for the woman, but could not find her.
Deputies continued to chase Paranteau eastbound to Taylor Cutoff Road, where he turned westbound onto Highway 101.
Paranteau then began to throw things out of his window near Carlsborg Road, continuing to speed at 70 to 75 mph.
Deputies deployed spike strips in the 3200 block of East Highway 101, but the strips were not effective.
Paranteau continued through to Port Angeles as deputies continued to chase him.
On Lauridsen Boulevard near C Street, a deputy hit Paranteau with a PIT maneuver, causing his car to spin around in the oncoming lane of traffic, where it hit a Chevrolet pickup truck.
There were no reported injuries.
Paranteau then locked himself in his car and moved over to the passenger seat while deputies ordered him to leave the car.
A deputy deployed a Taser through the partially open front driver’s side window, immobilizing Paranteau enough that deputies were able to break his window and take him into custody.
Paranteau was transported to Olympic Medical Center and was processed for driving under the influence of drugs and cleared for jail.
He was booked in the Clallam County jail for the outstanding warrants, attempting to elulde a police vehicle, DUI and reckless endangerment.
