SEATTLE — Fans of the Emerald City Comic Con will have to wait until next year to attend the event.
In early March, when the coronavirus outbreak began to take hold, organizers postponed the event until summer 2020.
At that time, organizers said they were working with Visit Seattle and the Washington State Convention Center to secure alternate dates.
But on Tuesday, with King County still in a modified phase 1 of Gov. Inslee’s Safe Start plan, organizers said the event would have to wait until next year.
“After many discussions with the convention center, exhibitors, artists and fans, we have made the excruciating yet necessary decision to cancel Emerald City Comic Con 2020 in Seattle,” organizers said in a Twitter post.
Organizers said there will be a digital event this August to support exhibitors and connect fans with the content they love.
The in-person event will return to Seattle March 4-7, 2021.
“All tickets transferred from ECCC March 2020 to August 2020 will be automatically refunded by June 29, 2020. No action is needed on your part. We will have more information on 2021 tickets and their on-sale date in the fall,” a tweet said.
Emerald City Comic Con is not just an event that happens over a handful of days, it’s a community. It is OUR community. What has made #ECCC so special are the people, their stories, & their experiences. We care about you & your safety. That will always come first. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/wIgSi0fZij
