EDMONDS, Wash. — A COVID-19 outbreak caused a Snohomish County school to send students home on Tuesday and switch back to remote learning.
According to Edmonds School District Superintendent Dr. Gustavo Balderas, in the last 10 days, there were 26 cases at Madrona K-8 School in Edmonds. Of the school’s 591 students, 236 were sent home because of classroom closures. Of those students, 135 students are quarantined because they had direct contact with those confirmed to have the virus.
The Edmonds School District posted on its website that after consulting with the Snohomish Health District, district officials decided to close the school building on Tuesday.
Balderas said deep cleaning was done in the building Tuesday and teachers were given the day off to prepare for remote learning, which began on Wednesday.
The district said those quarantined should not go to activities or child care, and recommended that parents of those students who were not told to quarantine should seek COVID-19 testing and monitor their children for symptoms.
The building will reopen on Monday, Nov. 1.
