Crews battled several brush fires on Wednesday afternoon along Interstate 5 in the South Sound.
Trooper Robert Reyer said there were six brush fires at about 3:45 p.m. alongside the northbound lanes of I-5 between Scatter Creek and Trosper Road in Thurston County.
Three additional fires started on northbound State Route 101 between Black Lake Boulevard and Steamboat Island Road.

Reyer said it appears the fires could have been started intentionally.
Witnesses told troopers they saw a black or blue “box truck-style” SUV.
Troopers said they are searching for that vehicle in connection with the brush fires.
After 5 p.m., troopers said the fires were successfully contained.
“Thank you for all your patience as we are trying to get the situation back under control,” Reyer said.
