Crews began tearing down an extensive bunker constructed by murder suspect Peter Keller in the Rattlesnake Ridge area.
NORTH BEND, Wash. — The effort is a joint operation between the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and King County Parks that are demolishing the bunker to it won't be a hazard to hikers who might find it.
The operation began Tuesday. So far, crews have removed and bagged material from the bunker. They also have dismantled the top of the structure and begun filling in the bunker with wood and dirt.
Crews anticipate completing the demolition by the end of the day on Wednesday.
Police have said they believe Keller killed himself as SWAT teams moved in on the fort Friday. Police said Keller spent eight years building the structure that had two-and-a-half levels of living space.
