SEATTLE — Seattle Fire Department crews responded to a fire at a residence in the Bitter Lake neighborhood.
The fire was reported around 5:40 a.m. at a home near N. 143rd Street and Fremont Ave. N on Friday.
One person was rescued from the second floor of the home and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The Seattle Fire Department has identified the person as a 55-year-old woman, who is reported to be in critical condition.
Crews did not find anyone else in the house during their search.
The fire required a large response-- it engulfed the garage all the way up to the attic. Firefighters evacuated the building and are now taking a defensive position to fight the fire from outside.
Firefighters said the home was difficult to access because the hallway was full of items and debris, blocking the main door.
As of 7:14 a.m., Seattle Fire pulled back crews and reduced the response.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This is a developing story.
KIRO 7 will have updates as they become available.
