BRINNON, Wash. — Police with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife are asking for the public's help after an elk carcass was found on private property in the Brinnon area of Jefferson County.

Officials said the elk carcass was the second found in less than a month. The first elk is believed to have been shot the evening (or) night of Aug. 15 and was found next to the Brinnon School.

"The head of the bull elk and the quarters of the animal had been taken off," Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Kit Rosenberger said.

The second elk carcass was believed to have been shot sometime in early September and "only the ehasd was taken leaving the rest to waste," officials said in a news release.

"We are currently seeking assistance from the public to assist us in identifying any suspects or vehicles that may have been involved," Rosenberger said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife at 360-902-2928, visit the department's website here, or text WDFWTIP to 847411.

Officials said those who are able to provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a crash reward or bonus points for special permit hunting opportunities.
