King County deputies said a road rage incident involving two drivers caused a seven-car crash in Covington Monday.
Deputies were called to the intersection of Southeast 272nd Street at Highway 18 early Monday to investigate a multi-car collision.
Witnesses reported there had been a road rage incident on Highway 18 between the driver of a Honda and a Ford F-Series truck, which continued onto eastbound Southeast 272nd Street.
Deputies said witnesses told them that both drivers made illegal U-turns and traveled westbound, where the Honda crashed into a Kenworth truck loaded with lumber.
After the crash, the driver of the Honda ran from the scene. The F-Series truck also left the scene. Both drivers are being sought by investigators.
Police said at least four other cars were damaged when the Kenworth truck rolled over. Injuries to the other motorists involved in the crash were minor.
The intersection remained closed for hours while the damaged cars were cleared. Crews also had to clean up a significant oil and gas spill.
“Fleeing from an injury accident is a class-B felony in Washington state, which is one reason King County deputies will continue their efforts to identity the two drivers responsible for this seven-vehicle crash,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
