LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting in Lynnwood.
Officials said a 46-year-old man was shot multiple times around 9:40 a.m. in a parking lot of a Fred Meyer located in the 2900 block of 164th Street Southwest.
Deputies said the victim was standing outside his vehicle when he was shot and that some sort of altercation led up to the shooting. It’s not clear if the shooter and victim knew each other before the incident.
“It sounded like fireworks, bang,” said Ben Stalvey, who was at the Alderwood Fred Meyer. “EMTs came and started taking his clothes off, patching him, and I saw blood. The police came, and I saw automatic weapons, and I knew it was serious,” he said.
The victim was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.
According to deputies, witnesses reported seeing a man and woman flee the scene in a silver BMW sedan.
The strip mall was full of shoppers and people going to other nearby businesses.
“This is a very busy parking lot,” said Courtney O’Keefe, a spokesperson for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. “There were multiple people here when the shots were fired. We are grateful there are no other victims.”
Deputies said they searched the area but were unable to locate the shooter.
Note: The sheriff’s office initially said the shooting victim was in his 30’s.
