Deputies search for man wanted for burglary, theft in Clallam County

CLALLAM COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who is wanted on burglary and theft charges.

On Monday, deputies said they responded to reports of a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Evergreen Road, west of Port Angeles.

The suspects had left when deputies arrived, but officials said a surveillance system showed 29-year-old Shayla A. Heckathorn and her 48-year-old uncle Anthony W. Heckathorn arrive in a vehicle and leave the house carrying items.

Items reported stolen included two firearms, a coin collection, jewelry, a silver serving set and tools, deputies said.

Deputies said Shayla Heckathorn was located early Friday by members of the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement team and was taken into custody.

According to deputies, she admitted to conspiring with Anthony Heckathorn to commit the burglary and said the house belonged to a relative who they knew would not be home. Deputies said they served a search warrant on her car and hotel room and found some of the stolen items.

Deputies said they also served a warrant at Anthony Heckathorn’s last known address, but he was not home.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said they have probable cause to arrest him on the following charges: first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, two counts of thefts of a firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Deputies said a 2004 conviction for third-degree assault prevents Anthony Heckathorn from owning or possession firearms.

Anthony Heckathorn is described as being white, 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. Since the stolen firearms have not been recovered, deputies said he is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on Anthony Heckathorn’s location or the stolen property is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
