Detectives link man to 1989 death of disabled Everett woman

Mary Ann Daniels

EVERETT, Wash. — After more than three decades, a man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a disabled woman in Everett.

It’s all thanks to advancements in DNA testing.

On February 1, 1989, Mary Ann Daniels was found dead inside her home on Hoyt Avenue. Mary Ann was 33 and had been placed into transitional living by her caseworker.

Over the weekend, Everett Police Detective Susan Logothetti, in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested after a man named Joseph Andrew Jacquez – and former Everett resident.

According to the Everett Police Department, DNA from the murder weapon came back as a match for Jacquez.

“I want to commend our police department and our partner agencies for their dedication to getting justice for victims like Mary Ann,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin in a news release. “My heart goes out to Mary Ann’s loved ones as they continue to grieve her loss.”

Jacquez was booked into jail locally in Clark County, Nevada, and will be extradited to Snohomish County.

“I appreciate all the hard work and dedication that Detective Logothetti and others put into finding the person who murdered my sister.  She faced unfortunate circumstances while living in a transitional rental house which her social worker placed her in,” her sister Sandi Daniels Lundin said. “She should have protected her from this happening, but instead put her in danger, and in the end, Mary Ann lost her life.  She had a hard life and is now at peace. Thanks to all that made this happen.”

Her brother also issued a statement on the news.

“Mary Ann was trusting, carefree and always believed the good in people,” Terry Lee Saline said. “She has never been forgotten by her family.”
