Dog caught safely after running across I-5 in Tacoma, halting morning traffic

SEATTLE — A stray dog running across Interstate 5 in Tacoma around milepost 129 caused heavy delays in morning traffic on Saturday morning.

Luckily, the dog was caught safely by Jessa and Katy Pine, who live in the area, and went to help after seeing the news on a lost dogs page on Facebook.

“We are the ones who saved Teddy off I-5 in Tacoma this morning thanks to wonderful efforts from many. Here is his photo to share in hopes of helping locate his owners. He is currently being treated at Summit Veterinary Hospital in Tacoma,” said Jessa Pine.

The Washington State Department of Transportation posted about the incident around 8 a.m., saying that police activity was causing traffic backups and delays on I-5 in both directions.

Drivers slammed on their breaks to avoid hitting the dog, with some even jumping out of their cars in the middle of the intersection to try to corral the dog.
