DOH: Million doses of COVID vaccine given across state

According to the Washington State Department of Health, more than 1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the state since distribution began in Dec. 2020.

“We are thrilled that 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Washington state. That means hundreds of thousands of people have gotten their COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Umair Shah, secretary of health. “But we have so much more work to do to get everyone, not just that first dose, but the second. And until we have millions of people vaccinated in the state, we all must continue to wear masks, wash our hands, and watch our social distancing.”

More than 30,00 people were vaccinated recently at four inoculation sites that opened Jan. 26 in Spokane, Ridgefield, Wenatchee and Kennewick.

Officials said more than 26,000 people are receiving the vaccine daily, moving closer to the DOH’s goal of vaccinating 45,000 people per day.

State providers, local- and private-sector partners, along with the Washington National Guard and DOH staff have been putting in long hours and months of planning, helping to reach Friday’s milestone.
