SEATAC, Wash. — SWAT and tactical teams were called out to assist with the arrest of a man involved in a domestic disturbance near Seattle Tacoma Airport Saturday.
A nearby resident who wanted to remain anonymous for safety says she saw a “heavy police presence” at the Polaris at SeaTac apartment complex around noon, with SeaTac, Burien, and King County police apparently utilizing drones and riot gear to access the building.
Just after 2:30 p.m., the resident received an email from her apartment complex, which is located across the street from Polaris, advising her to stay inside due to safety reasons:
KIRO 7 spoke with the King County Sheriff’s Office, who confirmed that the incident was an ongoing and active situation. They added that crisis negotiators were on the scene, but did not want to share any further information at this time in the interest of protecting responding crews and community members.
Around 3:30 p.m., the aforementioned resident of the Adara apartments, as well as another resident from Adara, told KIRO 7 that they had seen a suspect in handcuffs being led out of the building.
Once the scene was secure, Captain Tim Meyer with the King County Sheriff’s Office shared that the suspect had been safely apprehended and taken into custody.
According to KCSO, the suspect was booked for an outstanding arrest warrant and violation of a domestic violence court order. The man had other charges pending, and was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE Jail) in Des Moines, Washington.
The suspect’s non-compliance resulted in the heightened police response, but Captain Meyer was glad to share that nobody was injured in the arrest.
Captain Meyer highlighted KCSO’s commitment to community safety above all else amid the hours-long standoff, saying, “We thank everyone in the Polaris community for their understanding.”
