TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma Police remained for hours at a scene where gunshots erupted early Wednesday, leaving three people hurt.
KIRO 7 News video from the scene showed more than 50 evidence markers scattered across the street. Many of them were near a dark minivan.
A forensic investigator was documenting the crime scene, which was cordoned off with police tape.
The shooting happened at around 1 a.m. near Ninth and Pacific in the downtown area, not far from the Rialto Theater.
Officers were dispatched to the location after multiple 911 calls were received about a shooting. But when police arrived, though there were obvious signs of a shooting — such as vehicles struck by gunfire — no victims were found, according to Tacoma Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd.
However, a car seen speeding from the area was pulled over by an officer, who was then told that her friend had been shot and was in a different car.
Officers were then directed to a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital by Tacoma Fire Department medics.
Meanwhile, while officers remained at the scene, dispatchers received two calls from staff at local hospitals. One hospital said a second gunshot victim had come to the emergency room. A second hospital said another person from the shooting scene arrived after they were grazed by a vehicle.
All three victims have non-life-threatening injuries.
As far as suspects, Boyd said one person was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department on a weapons violation, but investigators are not certain if that person is responsible for the shooting.
Detectives will be investigating to determine if there are more suspects.
It is not yet known what led up to the gunfire.
