Dozens hurt when commuter train derails in Brooklyn

NEW YORK — A New York commuter train derailed Wednesday morning in Brooklyn, injuring dozens.

The Long Island Rail Road train derailed at the Atlantic Terminal..

New York firefighters said so far, they know of 76 people who were hurt, but the injuries were non-life-threatening.

The LIRR train failed to come to a complete stop at the station and hit the bumper at the end of the track, one witness said.

Passengers described the front of the train as “mangled.”

According to the New York Police Department, the driver missed the mark to stop and hit the emergency air brake system.
