BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews put out an abandoned house fire near Bonney Lake on Sunday.
Firefighters were sent to the fire around 11:30 a.m. near the 25000 block of Sumner Buckley Highway. A neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke from the second-story window.
“Crews arrived to a working fire visible on the second floor and quickly pulled line to begin the attack,” said EPFR. “The house was confirmed abandoned and crews transitioned to a defensive strategy.”
Firefighters asked for assistance to help with power lines and traffic control. EPFR said the overhead power lines and a past fire in the house five months ago prevented crews from fighting the fire from the inside.
Firefighters worked the scene for about 4 and a half hours. No injuries were reported. The Pierce County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, said EPFR.
