KENT, Wash. — An 84-year-old man from Kent died Monday morning after police say he was hit by a speeding driver in East Hill.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on 104th Avenue Southeast.

Witnesses told police that a BMW SUV was driving recklessly in the turn lane before hitting the man’s truck.

The man became trapped inside, and firefighters had to use extrication tools to free him. Despite efforts to save him, police say he died on the way to the hospital.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Police say the driver responsible for the crash, a 21-year-old from Renton, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
