Evacuations issued for homes in Teanaway due to brush fire

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Level 3 evacuations have been issued for about 20 homes in Teanaway, sheriff’s officials said, due to a brush fire Friday.

Officials said the fire started on Teanaway Road and spread quickly.

Level 3 evacuation notices, which mean "leave immediately," have been issued from the 8500 block to the 6500 block of Teanaway Road.

Level 2 evacuation notices, which mean "be prepared to leave," were issued from the 6500 block to the 4000 block.

Officials say Teanaway Road is closed to all traffic at Red Bridge Road and several other spots are blocked for fire-suppression efforts.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Central Washington Cascades until 6 p.m. for strong winds and low humidity, officials said Friday.

Officials set up a Red Cross Shelter in Cle Elum for evacuees. The shelter is set up at the Mercer Creek Church in Ellensburg, 1407 North B Street.

Friday night fire officials said the fire was estimated to be between 200 and 300 acres.
