Evacuations issued for new wildfire near Omak

People in dozens of homes were told to evacuate immediately Monday morning in Okanogan and Douglas counties for a new wildfire that broke out near Omak.

The fire is burning near Cameron Lake Road, Timentwa Road and Mad Mountain Road and spreading south and west.

The Cold Springs Road Fire triggered level 3 evacuations for about 60 homes around 2 a.m. Monday, and that number is growing. A level 3 evacuation means residents should get to safety immediately.

Officials with the American Red Cross, Northwest Region said residents should not wait for door to door notification. People should evacuate on Cameron Lake Road.

The Red Cross established a Virtual Temporary Evacuation Point. Evacuees should call 509-670-5331 for help.

“If you have time: evacuating residents are encouraged to bring the following for each member of their family: prescription and emergency medication, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents and other comfort items. Additionally, special items for children and infants, such as diapers, formulas and toys, should be brought, along with other items for family members who may have other needs,” the Red Cross said.
