EVERETT, Wash — An Everett man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for stabbing a 13-year-old middle school student in North Everett in January 2025.
The Everett Police Department (EPD) says Andrew Freeman was sentenced in court following his conviction for first-degree assault in connection with the unprovoked attack.
The stabbing occurred on Jan. 16, 2025, just before 8 a.m. as the 13-year-old victim was walking to school along 25th Street. Freeman stabbed the boy with a folding pocketknife.
The student attempted to run away, but Freeman followed him across Broadway and attacked him again before running from the scene.
The Everett Fire Department (EFD) took the boy to Providence Regional Medical Center in stable condition. Police launched a search using drones and a K-9 tracking unit, but officers were unable to locate the suspect that day.
Investigators gathered images of the suspect from several local businesses and distributed them to the public.
A community member recognized Freeman from a public bulletin and reported the sighting to law enforcement, leading to his arrest on Jan. 29, 2025.
On Sept. 1, 2026, Freeman was convicted of assault.
Freeman had been released from jail shortly before the attack took place.
