Exclusive: Random attack at Seattle park leaves artist with flesh-eating bacteria

A random attack Saturday night left a Seattle artist fighting for her life and she speaks to KIRO 7 News for the first time.

Danielle Oyster, who goes by Bunky, says she was jumped on Feb. 10 in Cal Anderson Park by three people around midnight as she was walking to the nearby light rail.

“Some man jumped out and clubbed me in the head with a rock. Out jumped another man. Then a woman jumped on top of me. She held me down, and started pummeling my face,” says Oyster.

She says she was hit repeatedly with a rock and their fists.

“I kept screaming ‘why are you doing this? Why are you doing this? Please stop, please stop.”

Oyster says they stole her wallet and backpack before continuing to attack and knocking her unconscious.

She woke up at Harborview Medical Center.

Bunky received stitches for the lacerations on her head. The lacerations led to a bacterial infection, which turned flesh-eating. She had surgery Wednesday night. She says she has a long road to recovery ahead. Hopeful that doctors can save her eye and that she can return to her art.

Oyster says she’s doubtful her attackers will be arrested, but says despite her fear of retaliation, she’s speaking out so other women stay alert and alive.

Bunky also set up a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses, which you can donate to here.

On Friday, Maritime Pacific Brewing Company will be doing a benefit for Bunky at the Jolly Roger Taproom. A portion of the proceeds will go to help in her recovery.
