Four people were injured and one woman was killed when a gunman opened fire on a Greyhound bus Wednesday in California.
“I wasn’t sure what it was, Greyhound broken up, I heard my little bro on the phone and that’s when the doctor took over and told me the situation,” says Nicholas Castillo. His mother, Karen Dalton, was shot and killed during the Wednesday night shooting. They say she used her body as a shield to protect her 11-year-old daughter, who is still recovering from injuries of her own.
The shooting happened in Oroville, California, Wednesday night while making the trip down from Washington to New Mexico.
“His mom stood in front of her kids and took those shots in her back. So yeah, how I feel, I’m pretty pissed off is how I feel,” says cousin Michael Hart.

In addition to killing Dalton and injuring her 11-year-old daughter, investigators say Asaahdi Coleman injured three others, including a 25-year-old pregnant woman.
“Randomly getting shot for no reason, it’s nuts,” says one of the victims who only shared his first name, Joshua.
He now has staples in his head from where the bullet hit him.
“I don’t understand why. Everyone was friendly to him, nothing funny was going on.”
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office now says they’re piecing together what happened and trying to figure out why the shooter pulled that trigger.
That is a question Dalton’s son Castillo needs an answer to. “My mom is a hero. The reason why my little sister is here… that means the most to me.”
