ARLINGTON, Wash. — All lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in the Arlington area have reopened after a fatal crash closed the road around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The closure had lasted for hours. Traffic was backed up for miles and cars were detoured. Drivers were told to avoid the area.
Trooper Jacob Kennett said the crash near 228th Street involved a box truck and a construction attenuator truck. The driver of the box truck was killed.
The southbound lanes of the freeway closed at 236th Street Northeast. The northbound I-5 offramp to 236th was also closed.
Though the crash is still being investigated, it appeared the construction attenuator truck was setting up a lane closure for construction south of the crash scene when the collision occurred, Kennett had said.
