SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Plumes of smoke were seen billowing in the air due to a fire at a scrap metal yard in Snohomish County on Sunday afternoon.
Multiple fire units from the cities of Snohomish, Duvall and Woodinville were called to the 18800 block of Yew Way for the fire burning at the United Recycling and Container Plant.
A pile of scrap metal estimated as 50 by about 200 feet caught fire.
People in the area reported smelling the fumes from the fire.
Fire officials said people living nearby would be able to smell it for a few miles, but there was no threat to the community.
Fire crews used water tenders to fight the fire due to a lack of hydrants in the area.
It is not yet known what started the fire, but officials are investigating.
The scrap metal yard is believed to be the same place where a fire ignited back in mid-June.
People who lived nearby or downwind of the fire were asked to close their doors and windows to avoid breathing in the smoke.
