Fire in Southern Washington claims one life, investigation underway

A structure fire near Strode Road in Carson claimed the life of one resident Tuesday evening, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Carson is north of Mount Hood, just across the Washington state border.

At approximately 9:54 p.m. on Dec. 10, the Skamania County Communications Center received a report of a fire.

Firefighters from Skamania County Fire District 1 and the Stevenson Fire Department, along with personnel from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services, quickly responded to the scene.

Fire crews immediately searched for occupants while working to extinguish the blaze.

They located and extricated one person from the structure and provided emergency medical care on-site.

Despite their efforts, the person died from injuries sustained in the fire.

The fire was eventually put out, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Responding agencies expressed condolences to the victim’s family and acknowledged the significant loss.

The investigation remains ongoing.
