PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A large brush fire in Bonney Lake has been 100% contained, firefighters tweeted at 9:40 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters responded to the area of 210th Avenue East and 132nd Avenue East, where the fire was burning in trees.
Chopper 7 captured flames and smoke rising in the air.
At one point, East Pierce Fire confirmed an aerial view of the brush fire showed it at about 5 acres to 7 acres and 35% contained. The fire was at least a quarter-mile from homes in the area.
A strike team had been positioned east of the fire at 131st Street Court East and 210th Avenue East to protect the homes.
A nearby neighborhood was under a Level 1 evacuation status and was told to be ready for a Level 2 (be ready to leave at a moment’s notice). At about 8:15 p.m. the evacuation order was canceled.
A Department of Natural Resources crew was also called to help local fire crews fight the flames. A helicopter was also requested to dump water on the fire.
Officials said although the fire is 100% contained, crews will remain overnight to patrol the fire line.
