Firefighters rescue man and dog from Everett apartment fire

Everett firefighters rescued a man and his dog on Dec. 12 after a fire broke out in a second-story apartment at Park 120 Apartments on Casino Road, according to the Everett Fire Department.

The fire, reported at approximately 6:30 a.m., was first noticed by an alert neighbor who called 911.

The resident of the affected unit also called to report he was trapped with his animals.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the apartment and found the man trapped on the second floor with his dog.

Crews deployed a ladder and safely rescued them through a window. The man was treated for smoke inhalation and discharged from the hospital later that day.

Tragically, two cats perished in the fire, and one remains unaccounted for.

Inside the apartment, firefighters faced significant challenges due to excessive personal belongings that obstructed pathways.

Despite these difficulties, crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, preventing it from spreading to neighboring units. The fire was fully extinguished within 25 minutes of their arrival.

The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office determined the preliminary cause of the fire to be an overloaded electrical outlet, which ignited nearby combustible items in the kitchen.

Officials emphasize the importance of fire safety, warning against overloading outlets and urging residents to keep pathways clear of clutter to aid in evacuation and firefighter access.
