Fireworks intentionally used inside of Mount Baker apartment, resident arrested on arson charges

SEATTLE — A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after several fires were set in a Mount Baker apartment building.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) says they were dispatched to the apartment off South McClellan Street after 7 p.m. for reports of a fire.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded and put out the fire. They say the resident wasn’t home at the time.

Investigators determined the three fires in the apartment were set intentionally.

Fire marshals discovered remnants of fireworks that appeared to be stripped bottle rockets and firecrackers used in the fires. They also found tape on two fire sprinkler heads, to prevent them from going off, and all the smoke detectors were removed.

The building suffered a large amount of water damage.

Officers developed probable cause to arrest the man who lives in the apartment. Once he returned to the building, he was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of arson and unrelated warrants.
