PinPoint Alert Weather: Atmospheric river system moves out of western Washington

KIRO 7 has ended its Pinpoint Alert. The atmospheric river system is moving out of western Washington as a cold front clears through the area. Overnight, winds gusted to 77 mph at Hoquiam with many spots around the Sound in the 50-60 mph range. This was enough to cause increasing power outages throughout the morning.

Through the rest of Wednesday, the wind will die down across western Washington with gusts dropping into the 20-30 mph range during the afternoon. By the evening, the wind should more or less completely die off.

As drier air moves in from the west, we’ll see any lingering showers taper off with periods of sunshine through the afternoon. In the mountains, a wintry mix will come to an end though a winter weather advisory/winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. today.

A couple of weaker systems will move through the area Thursday and Friday with a chance for some light scattered showers for tomorrow morning’s commute and some more widespread mainly light rain Thursday night into early Friday.

Over the weekend, we’ll start off with showers but more widespread, and potentially heavy, rain will move back in with a series of systems Sunday into early next week.
