PinPoint Alert Weather: Atmospheric River expected to push in Tuesday night

After a wet Monday, the steady rain is over with pockets of showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms.

For the rest of the day, we should just see spotty showers with some areas of rain moving through overnight.

Temps will be in the 30s and 40s. Tomorrow will start drier, but another very wet system is coming.

We should be drier in the morning tomorrow, but an Atmospheric River will push in tomorrow, increasing rain about mid-day with a warm front.

Snow levels will rise to about 7,000-8,000′ with means rain for the mountains, however, low-level east wind will keep pass surface temps around or below freezing.

That means we could see some freezing rain tomorrow later in the day and into Wednesday.

Be alert if you are traveling because ice could be a problem.

Rain will increase in intensity through the afternoon and evening, along with breezy to windy southeast wind.

It will be breezy to windy areawide tomorrow late and into early Wednesday before the wind eases a bit into Wednesday morning.

Gusts around 25-40 mph are possible all over, with some higher gusts around Everett north and from the Admiralty Inlet north.

We’ll have to watch for Wind Advisories, with none called yet.

Wednesday morning, the steady rain will taper off and we’ll see lingering showers with wind easing a bit.

Rainfall totals are still a bit up in the air, but at least 1-2″ of rain for the lowlands with the potential for 2-5″ in the mountains, or potentially more for the Olympics.

We have to see where the heaviest rain sets up, but it will be enough rain to push the Skokomish into moderate flood stage, and we’ll have to watch other area rivers that could get close.

The rest of the week does not look as active with more benign showers at times through the weekend.

Snow levels look to stay above the passes with some showers at times through the weekend as well.

We turn to winter officially on the Dec. 21, just after 1 a.m.
