Former UW All-American Mario Bailey joins Seahawks in front-office role

An offseason of turnover of players and coaches for the Seattle Seahawks has extended to the team's Community Engagement department.

Former University of Washington wide receiver Mario Bailey has joined the Seattle Seahawks' Community Engagement department as the Director of Legends & Player Community Engagement, according to the team's website.

Bailey will help to fill the void left after the team's last original employee, Sandy Gregory, retired in June after 42 years of working with the Seahawks.

In her tenure with the team, Gregory worked as in an administrative position in the public relations department, as the team's community service director before finally serving as the senior director of legends, team history and special projects. While losing Gregory will be tough to the entire Seahawks community, football fans in the Pacific Northwest are already very familiar with her replacement.

The 47-year-old Bailey graduated from Franklin High School in 1988 and went on to play wide receiver for the University of Washington under legendary coach Don James from 1988-1991 where he was a member of the 1991 National Championship team.

Bailey finished his Huskies career with 131 receptions for 2093 yards and 26 touchdowns. Click here for more of Bailey's UW stats.

After leaving UW, Bailey was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the sixth round of the 1992 NFL Draft.

Bailey played for the Frankfurt Galaxy for the now defunct NFL Europe from 1995-2000 and is the league's all-time reception leader.

Bailey retired from football in 2003 and became the head coach of his alma mater, the Franklin High School Quakers' football team in 2016.

The Seahawks begin training camp on July 26 at the VMAC in Renton.
