GRAYS HARBOR, Wash. — Grays Harbor Fire District 1 says a proposition to lift the fire levy cap was mistakenly left off the November ballot.
The measure, if included on the ballot, would allow additional property-tax revenue to be collected for fire services
In a statement, the fire district said Proposition 1 was not included on the ballot because of what it described as an error within the Grays Harbor County Elections Department.
The district said the issue was outside its control and that it is working to determine its next steps.
The announcement comes after officials had already issued a correction over inaccurate information about Proposition 1 in the voters’ pamphlet.
That correction said the pamphlet incorrectly stated the levy would increase by 40 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. According to the correction, the current levy rate is about $1.70 per $1,000, while the proposed 2027 rate would be $3.22, an increase of about $1.52 per $1,000.
Officials said the mayor and city attorney confirmed the pamphlet included incorrect wording by mistake. The city’s mayor said the pamphlet was prepared in June and had already been printed and mailed by the time the error was addressed. The mayor said the official ballot contained the correct information.
The fire district’s new announcement raises a separate issue: the district now says Proposition 1 itself was not included on the November ballot.
