A ground stop was issued at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Monday morning, according to the FAA.
The stop affected arriving planes that were already in the air.
It was in effect for about 10 minutes and has since been lifted. Some flights were delayed 15 minutes or less.
The halt was put in place due to wind and stormy weather conditions.
According to Port of Seattle spokesman Perry Cooper, there are two kinds of ground stops.
The first is very common and only applies to planes already in the air. In that case, the FAA asks them to shortly delay their landings. This type of ground stop is what happened Monday morning.
The second kind of ground stop halts all flights into an airport. This did not occur.

It is too windy up here in the sky in #Seattle. We just did a touch and go at @SeaTacAirport — now we try again! Left wing almost hit runway. Pilot corrected and we are going around. One more attempt... @AlaskaAir … pic.twitter.com/TdcBn2IYtP

In the last few minutes, Sea-Tac airport had a wind gust to 58 mph. The next several hours through 6 or 7 PM will be the windiest around Puget Sound with gusts of 40 to 50 mph common. #wawx
