Gun used to fatally shoot Everett teen believed to have been borrowed from 12-year-old

EVERETT, Wash. — Everett police arrested a 13-year-old boy in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy. Officers say they believe the gun used in the shooting was borrowed from a 12-year-old.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 9900  block of 12th Avenue West shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they found a boy who had been shot outside the breezeway of the Walden Pond Apartments. He was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives spoke with witnesses and believed the victim, a 14-year-old boy, had an argument with the 13-year-old shooting suspect.

About an hour after the altercation, the two ran into each other at the apartments, where the 13-year-old fired one shot from a pistol.

Just before 10 p.m., someone called 911 to report seeing a teen believed to be the shooter at a bus stop on West Casino Road. Police arrived and the boy was taken into custody.

During the interview, the 13-year-old suspect admitted to shooting the victim and led detectives to the location where he hid the gun, according to officers.

Police say the shooting is believed to be gang-related and the gun is believed to have been borrowed from a 12-year-old.
