SEATTLE — Firefighters responded to a HAZMAT incident in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood on Friday morning.
Seattle Fire Department responded to the spill of an unknown leak or substance just before 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of Airport Way South.
According to a public information manager with Seattle Fire Department, the incident began after someone at a medical sales building spilled a bottle containing the substance, and then reported feeling irritation to their eyes and lungs.
As HAZMAT teams worked to enter the building to identify the substance, the building was evacuated as a precaution.
King County Metro brought in two warming buses for those evacuated from the building.
At noon, Seattle Fire shared that the substance had been identified as ammonia hydroxide. One patient was evaluated after coming in contact with the substance, but was not taken to the hospital.
