Health officials say Christmas dinner at a Seattle shelter lands 5 people in hospital

SEATTLE, Wash. — Public Health Seattle King County says five people were hospitalized and 14 others fell ill after eating food served at a Christmas dinner at the Mary Pilgrim Inn.

The emergency temporary housing shelter served two dinners on Dec. 25 and the leftovers on Dec. 26.

Health officials say they believe everyone was sickened by salmonella and are now investigating the outbreak.

The health department says it is continuing to look into what happened and will provide updates as it learns more about the situation.
