Here’s how to avoid the I-5 traffic mess after the Thurston County oil spill

A tanker carrying 4,000 gallons of used motor oil overturned on I-5 Wednesday morning at the Thurston County line, blocking all northbound lanes.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

This is the quickest way to get information from WSDOT crews at the scene. At 12:21 p.m., crews reopened two northbound lanes of I-5 near Centralis. One right lane remained closed.

Roughly a half hour earlier, crews asked people to delay or cancel trips if possible, so it appears cleanup is going faster than expected.
