Fundraiser to be held to get internet access to families in need

Highline Schools Foundation is holding an online fundraiser to ensure that families in need have internet access as classes go remote in the fall.

Superintendents across the state held a virtual meeting recently to make sure no child is invisible once remote learning begins.

School leaders talked about how to address issues like child care and food insecurities, but reliable internet access was top of mind for many.

Without reliable internet access, Highline School District Superintendent Dr. Susan Enfield fears that students will be left behind at an alarming rate.

"We estimate hundreds, maybe 1,500 families that do not have reliable home internet access in our district. Without home internet access, children won't be going to school," Dr. Enfield says.

In response, the Highline School District’s foundation started a fundraiser where people can donate $140 to pay for a year’s worth of internet for a family who needs it.
