A couple confronted two suspects who tried to steal from their property early Wednesday morning near Orting, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said.

After 1:30 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting that her husband was holding a burglary suspect at gunpoint outside their home on 128th Street East in the McMillin area. She also reported that another suspect had fled the scene.

When deputies arrived at the home, they saw a suspect standing next to three trailers with his hands up and a large set of bolt cutters in the grass near him. He was ordered to the ground and then detained. Deputies instructed the homeowner to put his weapon down.

The homeowners told deputies they had woken up after hearing a loud vehicle driving past their house. A few minutes later, the motion alarm on their fence was activated. The couple then went outside and saw two suspects by their trailers.

Deputies said the detained 30-year-old suspect told them that he and his friend were going to break into the trailers and carport to steal items. The homeowners confronted the suspects before they could take anything.

The detained suspect was booked into jail on suspicion of second degree burglary.

Deputies located the suspect who fled the scene. The 24-year-old man was booked into the Pierce County on suspicion of second degree burglary.
