Ichiro to receive Mariners Franchise Achievement Award

SEATTLE — Former Seattle Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki will receive the team’s Franchise Achievement Award on Sept. 14.

The award recognizes significant contributions made to the franchise and will be presented before the Mariners game against the Chicago White Sox at 5:45 p.m.

The first 20,000 fans will receive an Ichiro Bobblehead, according to the team.

"Ichiro was a trailblazer when he arrived in 2001 and ushered in a new era for international players. Over his long playing career, he demonstrated daily the skill, passion and preparation that only the truly great have. We appreciate all that he has done for the Mariners, and for Major League Baseball," John Stanton, Seattle Mariners Chairman and Managing Partner, said in a news release.

The team is also holding Ichiro Fireworks Night, featuring highlights from his career, Sept. 13.

On Sept.15, the first 15,000 fans will receive an Ichiro replica jersey T-Shirt.

Ichiro joined the Mariners in 2001 after playing professionally in Japan.

In his first season with the team, he led the league in hits and stolen bases, and won the American League batting title, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger.

Ichiro was named both Rookie of the Year and MVP in 2001 and played 14 seasons for the Mariners.
