Injured snowmobiler rescued by helicopter after 15-foot fall near Mount Baker

NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. — A 57-year-old man was rescued from the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area last week after he was involved in a snowmobile accident, the U.S. Navy announced Wednesday.

A search and rescue team from the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island received a call requesting assistance shortly after 4 p.m. on Feb. 24.

The man was injured after he reportedly drove his snowmobile off a steep incline, dropping about 15 feet.

A rescue team was airborne by 4:50 p.m. and used a dual-man hoist to lift the injured man into the helicopter.

He was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for treatment.
