SPANAWAY, Wash. — An intruder is dead after they were shot by a Spanaway homeowner early Thursday.
According to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss Jr., at 4:21 a.m., deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of 165th Street East for a report of a shooting.
The homeowner said two intruders kicked in his back door, so he armed himself and shot at them.
When deputies arrived, they found one person dead in the front yard.
The second suspect had fled. Deputies searched the area but the suspect was not found.
Moss said the homeowner and his sister are shaken up but are OK.
The homeowner is cooperating with detectives.
Moss said detectives will canvass the neighborhood and interview anyone who might have information.
There are no details yet on what the intruders’ motive may have been.
