WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found Wednesday on the Semiahmoo Spit in Whatcom County.
Officers were called at about 1:30 p.m. to the 9200 block of Semiahmoo Parkway for a report of a suspected dead person at the county park.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as a 67-year-old South Whidbey Island man. His name is not being released until the next of kin is located, officials said. His death has been ruled a homicide.
The victim’s Ford van was found Thursday in Bellingham.
Police are being joined by Whatcom County deputies in the investigation, and are asking anyone with information regarding the victim’s death, or anyone who may have been in the area between 2:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday to call the sheriff’s office or the Blaine Police Department.
