Investigation underway after deputy-involved shooting in Bonney Lake

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — The Pierce County Force Investigation Team will be investigating after at least one deputy was involved in a shooting in Bonney Lake early Saturday morning.

Just after 4 a.m., deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported incident involving a suspect armed with a weapon at 117th Street East and 203rd Avenue East.

Deputies arrived at the scene at 4:50 a.m. and attempted to contact the suspect at a nearby residence.

A deputy then advised dispatch that there was a subject inside the residence with a gun who was refusing to come outside.

A few minutes after they arrived on the scene, deputies called out “shots fired,” according to PCSD.

At 5:10 a.m., the suspect, a 34-year-old man, exited the residence and surrendered to authorities.

The man was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to the foot before he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been booked on one count of first degree assault.

No deputies were injured in this incident.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with department policies.
