Washington State Patrol is searching for a black Corvette after the first reported shooting on a highway in King County in 2025. This is the second shooting on I-405 in a span of two weeks.
Last Thursday, investigators received a 911 call from a victim reporting that they were shot on I-405 at about 7:30 a.m.
Troopers said the victim was traveling northbound on the freeway, near Northeast 8th, when they tried to pass a vehicle on the right.
A black Corvette sped up and prevented the victim from changing lanes.
The victim was able to eventually change lanes and got behind the Corvette.
Moments later, the driver of the sports car slammed on their brakes.
A person inside the car fired at least one shot at the victim’s vehicle, detectives said.
“To hear that shooting with other cars involved, that just scares me a lot to even go on the freeway,” said Kalijah Bell, a motorcyclist. “That’s just not my safety, like everybody around me, my family. I have little brothers and little sisters and they run around Bellevue a lot of the times. So for that to happen close to here, that’s really scary for myself personally.”
The Corvette continued to follow the victim, while someone inside the car pointed at a gun at them.
The victim did not suffer any injuries.
Detectives said they are searching for at least one suspect after sharing a picture of a similar model of the suspect’s vehicle.
Thursday’s shooting came two weeks after another shooting on I-405, just before New Year’s Day.
Washington State Patrol said there were 44 reported shootings on freeways in King County in 2024, a decrease from the 55 reported cases in 2023.
“It’s scary to know that someone is that careless. They were driving erratically. It was just a terrible situation,” said a woman who said she had witnessed a shooting on I-5 in Federal Way months prior. “He just opened fire right in the middle of the freeway.”
