SEATTLE — Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his dominant performance on Monday Night Football.
Clowney finished with one sack, five tackles, five quarterback hits, one forced fumble and recovered one fumble for a touchdown in the Seahawks' 27-24 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers.
"What a fantastic football game (Clowney) played. He just was unblockable. He just continued to weave his way into the backfield and make plays, the run and the pass," head coach Pete Carroll said of Clowney's performance.
In 10 games this season, Clowney has recorded three sacks, 12 quarterback hits, has forced three fumbles and has two defensive touchdowns this season.
The Seahawks acquired Clowney in a trade with the Houston Texans just before Week 1 of the regular season.
In exchange for Clowney, the Seattle sent a 2020 third-round pick, Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin to Houston.
Clowney was originally the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft after starring at University of the South Carolina.
The three-time Pro Bowler will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The 8-2 Seahawks are on a bye this week and next play the Philadelphia Eagles on the road on Nov. 24.
