Jeff Bezos opening a second free preschool for low-income families in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. — Jeff Bezos is opening up a second free preschool in the Puget Sound area for low-income families.

Plans for the school by Amazon’s founder are moving forward after the Everett City Council unanimously approved the unique proposal.

The new location will be in the Everett Station and pay a dollar a month in rent for the next 10 years.

In exchange, the preschool will improve the space and provide year-round early education for low-income families, free of charge.

The Everett Academy will have about 12 faculty and staff and 60 children.

Bezos opened his first tuition-free preschool in Tacoma last October. That school serves roughly 80 students across four classrooms.

“I’m a big believer in a Montessori-style education, and it’s what inspires our curriculum at Bezos Academy,” Bezos wrote on Instagram. “Our goal is to unlock the potential in kids to become creative leaders, original thinkers, and lifelong learners — regardless of their zip code or socioeconomic background.”
